Designing and developing governmental websites means keeping one eye on accessibility at all times. We’d argue that this should be the case on any type of project, because accessibility compliance is not just another regulation we ought to meet, but a true need for.
The system is designed to allow cities, counties, local government, and other State agencies to securely login and effectively manage and edit incentives. However, manually adding and updating every last state incentive to a new platform would be a never-ending task without technology such as Sitecore Content Migrator, that helped us to move the initial bulk of content. Once we had the initial content in place, it was much easier to provide training and knowledge transfer for the technical and content teams.

Similar to popular e-commerce websites, such as Amazon.com, the more people use the portal, the more relevant recommendations they get. However, people’s needs change over time and they might be interested in other incentives on their next visit to the portal. That’s why — along with the “Save to Wishlist” function — we added a single-click “Reset my Preferences” function. One click and the system starts learning from scratch.

We built the California Business Incentives Gateway (CBIG) portal using the Sitecore Customer Experience Platform. We transparently track each visitor’s non-personal browsing behavior and their interest in different content on the website and combine such data with the information provided by the visitor. The Sitecore system collects data such as location, business operation, incentives type or keywords to recommend the most relevant business incentives to each visitor.
Happy Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2024!
Together, let’s strive to build a digital landscape where everyone can access and engage with content without barriers.
